Equatorial (mount)

Equatorial (mount)

It is a special mount for astronomical telescopes, which has an axis parallel to the axis of rotation of the Earth and a second axis normal to the first.

The axis parallel to the terrestrial, also called the polar axis, or time axis, can be coupled to a motor that, making it take a full turn in 24 hours. it compensates exactly the movement of our planet, so that the telescope follows the apparent displacement of the stars.

The second axis is in turn called the axis of decline. The equatorial mount is preferred by astronomers with respect to altacimuthal because, thanks to it, it is possible to take long exposure astronomical photographs.
