Liberty Bell 7 (spaceship)

Liberty Bell 7 (spaceship)

Name given to a small Mercury-type spacecraft, which on July 21, 1961 made the second space flight with an American on board.

The ship was manned by V. I. Grissom, the astronaut who years later would die during a simulated test on Earth, within the scope of the Apollo project.

It was only a suborbital flight, whose final phases were relatively dramatic because the spacecraft sank into the sea and Grissom was miraculously saved.
