Meteorology

Meteorology is the scientific study of the Earth's atmosphere. It includes the study of daily variations in atmospheric conditions (synoptic meteorology), the study of electrical, optical and other properties of the atmosphere (physical meteorology); the study of the weather, the average and extreme conditions for long periods of time (climatology), the variation of the meteorological elements near the ground in a small area (micrometeorology) and many other phenomena.

The study of the highest layers of the atmosphere (greater than 20 km or 25 km) usually involves the use of special techniques and disciplines, and is called aeronomy. The term aerology applies to the study of atmospheric conditions at any height.
