Series of Soviet space probes also called "Venus" and intended for the exploration of the planet Venus.
Venera 1 was the first interplanetary probe launched by man on February 12, 1961, and passed 100,000 km. of the planet Venus, but lost radio contact with Earth.
Venera 2 also followed the same fate, while Venera 3, even descending on Venus on March 1, 1967, failed to transmit any data.
The first success of the series was obtained by Venera 4, which on October 18, 1967 sent a capsule to the planet of the clouds, which transmitted precious data for 94 minutes as it descended.
The other numerous probes in the series have developed exploratory missions with remarkable success, transmitting photographs and data about the hostile Venusian environment.
