Gravitational Lens Black holes, deep space

Gravitational lenses are an astronomical phenomenon predicted by Albert Einstein's theory of relativity. According to this theory, space objects with sufficient mass can act as lenses for light that comes from more distant objects and are in the same direction as an Earth observer.

The first gravitational lenses were discovered in 1979 by British astronomer Dennis Walsh. Since then they have been used.
