Comet Hale-Bopp, the great comet of 1997, was an out-of-series vision, giving us the opportunity of a memorable celestial spectacle that will not be repeated for another 2,000 years.
In this photograph, taken on April 6, 1997, comet Hale-Bopp was captured from the Indian Cave Reserve, in the Yuca National Park, in California, USA. To light the rocks in the cave, intermittent light was used during the six minutes of the exposure. In the image you can see perfectly the two tails of the comet.
During his perihelion, comet Hale-Bopp came to shine more than any star, except Sirius.
