This image, dubbed "presidential panorama" by the Mars Pathfinder team, shows in colorful detail the surroundings of the Sagan Memorial Station.
In the right third there is a large rock. That rock has been called Yogi and just to its left is the robotic explorer Sojourner ("The One Who Stays") making measurements of it. Other now famous rocks can also be seen, including Bill Barnacle ("Bill Percebe") and Cima Plana. After this photo was taken, the Sojourner went on to analyze a rock called Scooby Doo.
The Mars Pathfinder mission landed on July 4, 1997 and collected data for about three months. Analyzes indicate that the Pathfinder site was probably full of water in the distant past, but that it has been dry for the past two billion years.
