A volcano is a geological formation that consists of a fissure in the crust of a planet on which a cone of volcanic matter accumulates. On top of the cone there is a concave chimney called crater. The cone is formed by the deposition of molten and solid matter that flows or is expelled through the chimney from inside the planet.
In the image you can see the lava flow that descends gently down the slopes of a volcano in Hawaii. Volcanoes of this and other types occur in various rocky bodies of the solar system still active.
