Etna volcano. Earth Details

The Etna volcano, located in Sicily (Italy), has been erupting for hundreds of thousands of years. The volcano produces lava sources over a kilometer high.

The Etna volcano is not only one of the most active volcanoes on Earth, but it is also one of the largest, since it measures more than 50 kilometers of base and reaches about three thousand meters high. This photo was taken in May 2001 and two lava fountains are seen near the center, while the boiling lava flows down the volcano down the hillside to the left.

Etna volcano is a basaltic volcano, it is composed of a material similar to the one that makes up Mars and produces similar lava channels. The rotation of the Earth is detectable in this long shot by the stelae that leave the lights of the stars.
